I recently took a first aid and CPR course through Pet Tech and I have to say I was impressed.
This course informed me in so many ways of how to save an animals life in case of an emergency. I left the course feeling confident that if something were to arise on my clock I would know just how to deal with the problem. Pet Tech offers a course called PetSaver™ Program which is the one I attended, it is an 8 hour course and covers the following topics:
Skill: Restraining & Muzzling:
Reason: A pet that is in pain or is going to be moved into pain, can and will bite. Learn the necessary skills it take to restrain and muzzle an animal before administering aid. Handbook and hands on training is offered.
Skill: Primary Assessment
Reason: The first 12 seconds of being on the scene are crucial to asses what actions might need to be taken to save a life. You will learn just how to access any situation with handbook work and hands on training.
Skill: Rescue Breathing
Reason: If your animal has a heart beat but is not breathing it is imperative you know how to open the airways so air can reach the lungs. Hands on skill training and handbook skill work will be completed.
Skill: Canine & Feline CPR
Reason: If the animal is not breathing you need to call for help, but know what to do before help arrives. You will receive hands on training and bookwork training.
Skill: Choking Management
Reason: If the animal is choking you have a short window to regain air to the lungs. You will learn hands on how to remove blockage. Hand book work is also completed.
Skill: Bleeding & Shock Management
Reason: You need to be aware of how to stop bleeding and shock to an animal found in this condition. You will learn how to Restraint, Muzzle, Elevation, Direct Pressure, Constricting Hand/Band, Immobilization, Shock Management & Transportation. Hands-on Skill Practice.
Skill: Snout-To-Tail Assessment for Injury & Wellness
Reason: A deliberate and systematic assessment from the snout to the tail of the pet with intent and purpose looking for any injuries the pet does not present to you or for wellness to create a base-line of your pet’s health. Hands on skill practice.
Skill: Assessing the Pet’s Vitals
Reason: If you know what is normal for your pet then you will be able to quickly
recognize when your pet is presenting not-normal signs. Hands on training.
You also will be lectured on the following topics, handbook work is incorporated in these lessons. Pet First Aid Kit Contents, Insect Bites & Stings and Snakebite, Heat & Cold Injuries, Seizure, Caring For Your Senior Pet-izen.
