In Home Pet Sitting Policies & Procedures

Becoming A New Client

To become a client of The Cat’s Meow, we must conduct an initial meet-and-greet session where I will come to your home and meet you and your pets. This meeting ensures we are a good fit to work together. During this session, I will spend time with your animals, and you can see the bond and connection I form with them quickly. We can review your needs and your pet’s regular routines, procedures, and habits. Then, we will decide if it’s a good fit to move forward with scheduling your first pet-sitting experience.

Scheduling

As a one-woman operation without employees, my schedule tends to fill quickly, especially during busy holidays for in home pet sitting. To ensure you secure your preferred dates, I recommend booking as far in advance as possible. Many of my long-term clients, who have been with me for years, rely on my consistent care for their pets. While I strive to accommodate last-minute reservations whenever possible, it’s always best to plan and schedule your pet-sitting dates on my calendar as soon as you know you’ll be away. And don’t worry about cancellation fees – there aren’t any! It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so don’t hesitate to reserve your spot early.

Communication

I primarily communicate with pet owners via text messages, quick phone calls, or emails, ensuring easy and convenient correspondence. Following each in home pet sitting service, pet updates are texted, including photos and videos. I strive to respond to messages within a few hours, and my availability for communication spans from 7 am to 8 pm daily.

Job Sharing

We adhere to a strict policy against job-sharing with other pet caregivers or house guests for liability reasons. We will not share in home pet sitting responsibilities with friends, neighbors, or extended family members. This ensures your animal’s safety, comfort, and emotional well-being. Too much stimulation and personality changes can harm their emotional health. We pride ourselves on delivering consistent services and keeping your pet in their everyday routines, habits, behaviours, and systems while you’re away to minimize stress.

Payment For Services

Payment is due at the time of service. At The Cat’s Meow, we accept various payment methods, including cash, checks, PayPal, or Venmo.

Pet Supplies

  • During our meet and greet, we’ll discuss the pet’s supply needs for your time away to ensure you’re well-prepared. It’s best if you can leave enough supplies (like food, litter, and treats) for the duration of our care. While I’m happy to make occasional store runs if needed, there may be an additional charge for cost, time, and mileage.
  • To ensure smooth pet care, please let me know in advance if you relocate any supplies. A quick text or a note left on the counter will do the trick! Accessible supplies like leashes, litter, pet food, and paper towels are essential for me to provide top-notch care for your animals.

Medical Information

During our meet and greet, we will thoroughly review your pet’s medical history, medications, allergies, and vaccinations and fill out my pet intake forms. This thorough discussion ensures I comprehensively understand your pet’s medical, physical and mental needs. I will keep the form on record (digitally) so I can access it at all times, ensuring your pet’s safety around the clock.

Home Security

If you don’t see safety precautions you’d like me to perform, please reach out, as I’m happy to accommodate most requests. We can discuss your needs during the initial meet and greet.

  • Unmarked Car: I will never arrive at your house in a marked car that says “Pet sitter” or “The Cat’s Meow” on it. This ensures your neighbors or surrounding houses do not suspect you’re not home. This helps protect your privacy and guards the house from unwanted opportunists.
  • Security System: If you have a home security system that requires a code. Home security system codes are kept in a secure and 100% encrypted password system called LastPass.
  • House Keys: House keys are kept in a lock box at my home. The code to this lock box has been given to 1 trained professional in case an emergency arises, and they can take my place. I’ve never missed a pet sit in ten years and don’t plan on it in the future, but it’s always safe to have an emergency plan just in case.
  • Maintaining Appearance: I will do the following steps to ensure your home looks lived-in to outside watchers. I will rotate blinds and lights, take trash bins in and out on trash day, and take in the mail. This will deter a wondering eye at your house.

Home Access

  • Your Responsibility: We kindly request that you inform us if anyone else will have access to your property while you’re away. Rest assured, I will secure your property after each visit. However, please understand that if multiple people have access to your house during our in home pet sitting services, I can’t be held responsible for its security.
  • The Cat’s Meow: We are a one women show, meaning I have no employees. No one else will have access to your home on my end. While emergencies are rare, I have a trained professional on standby, though I’ve never had to utilize backup in my ten years of pet sitting. However, knowing that your pets will always have consistent care should the unexpected occur is comforting.

Change of Plans

Flexibility is key, and we’re here to adapt to your changing plans easily. Should you find yourself returning home earlier than planned, kindly give me a heads-up so I can adjust my schedule accordingly. Likewise, if your return is delayed, rest assured I’ll continue providing excellent care for your pet as long as we stay in touch. Communication is vital. Feel free to text me with any changes, and I’ll ensure your pet’s well-being is always prioritized.

Emergency Contact

Having an emergency contact as a pet sitter is essential. It ensures that there’s someone to help if something unexpected happens while caring for your pet. Your emergency contact knows your pet and can make decisions on your behalf. In case you can’t be reached, your emergency contact can step in to ensure your pet gets the care they need right away. During our meet and greet session, we will fill out the emergency contact form.

Key Pick Up & Return

The key exchange process is tailored to fit each client’s individual needs since everyone’s situation is different. During our meet and greet, we’ll chat about your preferences and come up with a plan together. Once I have your keys, I’ll keep them secure in a lockbox at my home, ensuring they’re safe until your return.

Pet Emergencies

We’ll discuss the emergency plan together during the meet and greet if anything should arise while your pet is under my care. Being Pet Tech Certified and CPR trained, I can perform basic emergency care; however, in some cases, a veterinarian clinician may be necessary. In these cases, you, as the pet owner, authorize The Cat’s Meow to bring your pet to your preferred Veterinarian. If your preferred Vet is closed, we will bring them to the nearest option to make sure they get the care they need quickly. All veterinarian visit costs are to be covered by the client.

Pet Sitter Emergency | Illness

In the rare event that I become ill or experience an emergency of my own, I have a trained professional who is ready to step in and ensure uninterrupted pet care. With over ten years of experience, I’ve never missed a pet sit, and while I don’t anticipate it happening, having a reliable backup ensures peace of mind for both you and your pets.

Natural Disasters | Inclement Weather

In the event of a natural disaster, The Cat’s Meow will go above and beyond to ensure the safety of your pets and the security of your home. However, there may be instances where access to your home is restricted due to closed roads (e.g., fire, flooding, snow). To prepare for such situations, we highly recommend providing a spare house key to a nearby neighbor.

Pet Sitters Insurance

Rest assured, The Cat’s Meow is insured and bonded to cover certain accidents or mishaps that may occur during our in-home pet sitting visits. If you wish to review a copy of our insurance policy, simply let us know during your meet and greet session, and we’ll happily provide you with the details. Your peace of mind is our top priority, and we want you to feel confident knowing that your pets are in capable and protected hands while under our care.

Special Requests

At The Cat’s Meow, we value your unique needs and preferences. We’re committed to accommodating special requests and procedures to ensure your complete satisfaction. Whether it’s specific care instructions or personalized routines, we’re here to tailor our services to meet your pet’s individual requirements. Reach out to discuss or tell me during our meet and greet.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How does the in home pet sitting process work?

The first step to becoming a client with The Cat’s Meow is to book a free meet and greet where I will come to your home and visit with you and your animal. This visit is required for all new clients. I will not accept you if I haven’t met your pet ahead of time. This is for the safety of your animal and myself.

Once we agree it’s a good fit to work together we will get you scheduled on the calendar for the dates needed for service. You will give me the key to your home and we will fill out all the paperwork necessary to get your animal onboarded. That’s it. Simple and easy. You can call me at 603-704-4186 to schedule the initial in person session or you can contact me here to schedule: Contact The Cat’s Meow

Can I get a quote for in home pet sitting services before booking?

Yes, during the meet and greet, I will provide you with the complete cost of the pet care services. I have no hidden fees, so it’s pretty straightforward. The charge per session is $25; for example, if you need five pet care visits, it will be $25 X 5 = $125. Special requests may have add-on fees in some cases, but the majority of the time, it’s that simple.

We are so pleased with the service can we leave gratuity?

As with any service provider, gratuities for services are not expected, but if you feel you would like to include one, we would gladly welcome it! Thank you for considering it as gratuity lets us know we’re on track to providing the most top noth in home pet sitting services to Manchester nh and it’s surrounding towns.

Are there a minimum or maximum amount of days we can book?

You’re welcome to book any number of days of service, but we generally advise against pet sitting sessions exceeding two weeks for dogs or three weeks for cats. This recommendation is based on ensuring the emotional needs of your pets.

    Will you discipline my pet?

We exclusively use positive reinforcement techniques as they lead to the best results. However, if any concerns arise regarding your pet’s behavior, we’ll promptly contact you to discuss the situation and determine the best course of action together.

Do you require our pet to have vaccinations?

While we don’t require vaccinations, we strongly advise keeping your pets current for their safety. In the rare event of an injury to one of our caregivers by your pet, it’s the owner’s responsibility to cover any medical expenses and lost wages not covered by our insurance plan. Although we have insurance for such incidents, there may be costs exceeding our policy limits, as is typical with any insurance coverage. Your cooperation in this matter is essential for the safety of both our caregivers and your cherished pets.

Do you work on holidays for in home pet sitting?

Yes, of course. These are my busiest times as a pet sitter. There is no upcharge for holidays, but it’s recommended to book in advance as these spots fill up quickly. I accommodate last-minute reservations but can not guarantee them. So book your holiday pet care services now. There are no cancellation fees for convenience, so it’s best to be safe than sorry.

What do you do during the free meet and greet and how long is it?

During the meet and greet session I will take my time to get to know you and your animal. I will spend time with them so you can see how we bond. If you’d like to move forward with pet care services we will fill out 3 forms.

A pet background form which gives me all the necessary information about your pet and how to take the very best care of them. We will fill out the emergency form and discuss the procedure in case of an emergency. We will go over the legal paperwork and logistical stuff needed so we have the same expectancy of duties while you are away.

Other than that you will give me a key to your home and we will schedule the pet care sessions in the calendar. That’s it. Easy and simple process so you feel totally comfortable with leaving me in charge of your home, and pets while away. If you’d like to schedule a meet and greet click here: Contact Lynn
